Develops, documents and maintains customer standards as related to their requirements for :
The Project Engineer is responsible for the successful completion of the DDC engineering submittal package, material selection for purchasing and final blue book delivery to the project team for installation and startup in order to meet contractual requirements. The engineering phase includes the submittal package design and development, material selection for ordering and project communications with the Mechanical Engineer including RFI and Change Order documentation in Company’s Project Management software. This position also encompasses documenting and maintaining company and customer standards and assisting in preparing and sometimes assisting in customer training.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. SUBMITTAL PACKAGE DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT
- Conducts project turnover meetings with the Sales Engineer, Operations Manager/Area Manager and other GSA personnel as required to officially transfer all sales related information to the engineer so the actual project design phase may begin.
- Designs and develops panel layouts, network layouts, wiring diagrams per customer and/or company standards utilizing Automated Logic’s EDS system.
- Selects materials including DDC modules, field sensing and control devices, dampers and valves to meet the project requirements, specifications, codes and customer standards. If items differ significantly from the sales estimate, provide detail and review with sales and management to understand why and to alleviate such issues on future projects.
- Submits material order forms for all project required materials to the purchasing group along with detailed “when needed” dates to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Completes each assigned project focusing on customer satisfaction and specification compliance while trying to maintain budgetary guidelines.
- Develops Red Line drawings for final As-built/O&M documents for each project and archives on Sharepoint site.
2. GRAPHICS ENGINEERING
- Designs and develops the project graphic package utilizing customer and company standards.
- Submit the graphics design package to Automated Logic for completion.
- Reviews the project’s graphic package upon return from ALC to ensure the package was completed per direction and that all graphical links, values and depictions operate and display properly and function appropriately in the field.
- Ensures the project’s graphic package is complete according to schedule and that the finished package is available to field personnel prior to commencing with project startup and checkout.
3. APPLICATION/SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
- Utilizes company or customer standard Eikon programs for designing the graphic function blocks for assigned projects. The goal is to utilize standard GFB’s on multiple projects and only utilize custom GFB’s where it is absolutely necessary.
- Tests the project’s GFB’s to ensure they meet the specified sequences of operation and that they perform according to industry standards.
3. PLANNING/SCHEDULING
- Coordinates the planning and scheduling of all aspects of assigned project with Area
- Supervisor/Project Supervisor, including:
- Scheduling/Planning with sales and engineering during turnover meeting
- Scheduling of engineering submittals
- Coordination of material deliveries with Purchasing for just in time delivery of materials for installation.
- Scheduling/Planning graphics supplied to field staff for project startup and commissioning by field engineers/technicians.
4. STANDARDS DOCUMENTATION
- System graphic displays
Eikon GFB typical programs and methods of operating certain equipment - Submittal package presentation]
- Network Layouts for WAN, LAN, ARCnet/MS/TP, and any required servers, routers or other hardware.
- Installation methods, standards or preferred hardware.
- Furnishes documented information to the sales group for inclusion in estimating future projects and to ensure consistency on future projects.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. COMMUNICATIONS
- Maintains documentation of project related correspondence with owners, contractors, engineers, etc. as it relates to assigned projects and forwards this documentation to the administration group for inclusion into the project job folder.
- Documents and maintains log of project related RFI’s, emails and any telephone conversations impacting the project. Maintain this log and periodically provide updates to the administration group for inclusion in the job folder.
- Maintains personal accessibility through office phone. All calls should be returned within a 24 hour period unless on vacation. If on vacation, voice mail should detail the employee’s unavailability and give and alternate contact name and number.’
- Ensures timely issuance of as-built documents and any project specific close out documents required by specification or contract.
2. TEAM/OWNER RELATIONS
- Develops and fosters relationships between owners and the Company’s team in order to document the owner’s project standards, requirements and legitimate needs for use by the team in engineering, commissioning and documenting current and future projects to ensure and assure a level of consistency and quality.
- Assists the team sales personnel with pre-bid site visits on an as-required basis.
- Provides on-going project support to company field personnel and our subcontractors.
3. TECHNICAL
- Maintains technical proficiency in building codes, building systems applications and accepted construction industry practices.
- Maintains knowledge of Automated Logic hardware, software, tools and applications.
- Analyzes and advises owners and contractors regarding appropriate control application strategy and available options.
- Locates and uses resources on issues that are beyond personal technical expertise.
4. TEAM CONTRIBUTION
- Actively participates in team and engineering meetings, is open to the free exchange of ideas and concepts and contributes input and feedback to the management team members in a constructive manner.
- Suggests improvements in company processes and methods to improve its ability to meet the mission statement.

8. OTHER
- Conducts oneself in a professional manner consistent with the values set forth in the Company Mission Statement.
- Performs duties following all Customer and Company safety rules and operational procedures and guidelines.
- Maintains Company property and Company assigned assets with diligence and keep in proper working order.
- Assists in the development of In-house training/troubleshooting courses to develop employee and customer knowledge and skills. Conducts training on an as needed basis for fellow employees or customers.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE):
- Engineering College or 2-year technical school graduate plus a minimum of 4 years of engineering or field experience with DDC Systems.
- Knowledgeable in DDC control theory and applications pertaining to the HVAC/control industry.
- Highly skilled in use of Automated Logic’s software and other system related software packages.
- Skilled in use of personal computer with software Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, ALC EDS, database management tools and other software that may be utilized by company.
- Able to visit job construction hard hat areas and climb stairs, maneuver in and around pipework and air ducts and work safely in close proximity to exposed line voltage and low voltage wiring and terminations and climb an 8’ ladder without assistance.
- Has the ability to lift and move boxes of material or wooden skid or pallet weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Possesses valid state motor vehicle license and possess safe driving record as required by company’s insurance carrier.
- Participates in and supports the company’s desire and goal to implement a drug free work place program.
