We are looking for a dependable and experienced Lead Electrical Low Voltage Installation Technician to join our Birmingham, Alabama team.

This position is ideal for someone who takes ownership of their work, can lead a field installation team, understands low voltage electrical installation, and wants the opportunity to grow with a well-established company.

Position Summary

The Lead Electrical Low Voltage Installation Technician will be responsible for leading and coordinating low voltage installation work on Building Automation System projects. This person will read project plans, schematics, installation drawings, and project submittal manuals to ensure work is installed correctly, efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project requirements.

The Lead Technician will supervise assigned installation team members, coordinate daily field activities, communicate job progress, and assist with the transition of completed installation work to startup and checkout technicians. This position plays an important role in making sure each project is installed properly and ready for successful system startup, commissioning, and customer turnover.

Key Responsibilities

· Read and understand project installation manuals, submittals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and project plans.

· Lead and supervise assigned low voltage installation team members.

· Coordinate daily installation activities with the Branch Manager, project managers, general contractors, electricians, mechanical contractors, and other trades as needed.

· Install and oversee installation of low voltage wiring, control panels, controllers, sensors, devices, conduit, raceways, and related Building Automation System components.

· Ensure work is completed neatly, accurately, safely, and in accordance with project documents and company standards.

· Track installation progress and communicate jobsite needs, issues, delays, or changes to the appropriate supervisor or project manager.

· Support installation quality control and help identify issues before startup and checkout.

· Coordinate the turnover of completed installation work to startup and checkout technicians.

· Provide field support to startup and checkout technicians during commissioning, point-to-point checkout, and system verification.

· Help train and mentor less experienced technicians and installers.

· Maintain company tools, equipment, vehicle, and jobsite materials in a professional manner.

· Follow all company safety procedures and jobsite requirements.

Qualifications

· Experience in low voltage electrical installation, controls installation, Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, electrical construction, or similar field work.

· Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, construction plans, and project submittals.

· Ability to lead, direct, and support field installation team members.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Good communication skills with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers.

· Ability to work independently and make responsible field decisions.

· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record that meets company insurance requirements.

· Ability to pass drug screening requirements. Gulf States Automation is a drug-free workplace.

· Must be dependable, professional, and committed to quality workmanship.

Preferred Experience

· Building Automation Systems, DDC controls, HVAC controls, or temperature control system experience is preferred.

· Similar industry experience is acceptable for candidates who have the required leadership, electrical, low voltage, plan reading, and field coordination skills.

· Experience leading a crew or serving as a lead technician on commercial construction projects.

· Familiarity with control panels, low voltage wiring, field devices, sensors, actuators, VAV controls, air handling unit controls, and mechanical system control wiring.

· Experience on commercial, healthcare, education, manufacturing, data center, mechanical renovation, or critical facility projects is a plus.

· OSHA or other jobsite safety training is a plus.

Travel and Schedule

This position is based out of Gulf States Automation’s Birmingham office. The majority of travel is local day travel within the Birmingham and Montgomery metro areas.

Short-term overnight travel may occasionally be required for specific project needs in North or Central Alabama.

Overtime is not regular but may be required from time to time for accelerated project schedules, especially on manufacturing, data center, mechanical renovation, or other critical facility projects.
