Position Summary
Gulf States Automation is seeking a motivated, technically minded Technical Sales Representative to grow our building automation and controls business throughout the Gulf States region. This role is ideal for someone with experience in HVAC controls, building automation systems (BAS), mechanical systems, or industrial automation who enjoys building relationships, solving customer problems, and driving sales growth.
The Technical Sales Representative will develop new business opportunities while managing existing customer relationships with building owners, contractors, consulting engineers, and facility managers. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor, helping customers improve comfort, energy efficiency, and building performance through automation solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
Business Development
- Develop new customer relationships throughout assigned territory.
- Identify and qualify sales opportunities.
- Generate leads through networking, referrals, industry events, and prospecting.
- Conduct customer meetings to understand operational and business challenges.
- Expand relationships with existing customers.
Technical Sales
- Recommend building automation and controls solutions based on customer needs.
- Understand HVAC systems and explain automation strategies to customers.
- Assist customers in identifying opportunities for energy savings and operational improvements.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to develop project solutions.
- Participate in project design discussions and customer presentations.
Proposal Development
- Prepare estimates, proposals, and sales presentations.
- Review project specifications and drawings.
- Coordinate pricing and scope with engineering staff.
- Present proposals and negotiate contracts.
Account Management
- Maintain regular communication with customers throughout project lifecycle.
- Ensure successful handoff to project management after project award.
- Identify opportunities for service agreements, upgrades, retrofits, and future projects.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts, and sales activities.
Industry Engagement
- Attend industry events and trade shows.
- Build relationships with consulting engineers and mechanical contractors.
- Stay current on building automation technologies, energy regulations, and market trends.
Qualifications
Required
- 3–7 years of technical sales or HVAC controls experience.
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) or HVAC controls.
- Understanding of HVAC equipment and control sequences.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and control diagrams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM software.
- Valid driver's license with ability to travel throughout assigned territory.
Preferred
- Experience with systems such as Automated Logic, Tridium Niagara, Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, or similar platforms.
