The Sales Estimator is responsible for the successful completion of the project site survey,
mechanical/electrical systems analysis and complete control systems takeoff and points list generation
as well as control device takeoff, quote acquisition and overall controls system project estimate
generation and review with the sales team. This position is also responsible for the technical support of
the sales role for customer meetings, site visits and WebCTRL System Demonstrations (demo’s to be
performed by the GSA sales role personnel) and project communications with the Mechanical
Engineer/Bidding Project team including pre-bid RFIs and on-going Change Order and estimate
generation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Developing a unique and tailored HVAC Controls/BAS/DDC system solution along with the
Solutions Sales Consultant (SSC) for each assigned project., including full site surveys for
renovation work, job site meetings/pre-bid meetings in association with the SSC and obtaining
any existing mechanical and/or control documents pertinent to the job including as-builts if
available.
- For Plan and Spec bid type projects, ensure the SSC has provided the most recent up-to-date
plans, specifications, RFIs, Addenda, project schedule and identified if this customer is existing
or new. If existing, document what version of WebCTRL and field hardware are currently
installed in the existing facility.
- Preliminarily layouts the required BAS panel setups, ALC controller selection, network layouts,
Point list takeoff sheets and wiring layout’s/distances per customer and/or company standards.
- Selects sensors, controls devices, dampers, valves, actuators, AFMS, lab controls and various
materials including DDC controllers to meet the project specifications, codes and customer
standards. If any items are unclear from the project documents, prepare a pre-bid RFI and get
clarification prior to final estimate being established. Obtain proper quotes for specialty
equipment such as valves, dampers, room pressure monitors, Air Flow Measuring Stations, etc.
- Utilize the most recent version of the GSA Job Estimator Software with updated ALC List Prices
and enter all required data to ensure an accurate cost estimate for the base bid and any
subsequent alternates.
- Completes each assigned project focusing on obtaining the most accurate real cost estimate
possible.
- Review the project estimate with the SSC and review the completed and final numbers and
associated risks and nuances of the job with the SSC and Management Team to ensure
we have all capabilities and licensing required as well as needed manpower withing the
timeframe to successfully complete the project with the published and expected scheduling
deadline
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate teamwork with assigned personnel consisting of Sales Management, SSC,
Operations Manager, Area Manager and Company Installation and Startup Teams.
- Maintains documentation of project related correspondence with contractors, engineers, etc. as it
relates to the estimating and pre-bid phase of the assigned projects and shares this
documentation with the Solutions Sales Consultant.
- Maintains personal accessibility through office phone. All calls should be returned on the same
day, if possible, but not longer than within a 24-hour period unless on vacation. If on vacation,
voice mail should detail the employee’s unavailability and give an alternate contact name and
number.’
- Develops and fosters relationships between the Company’s Sales team and our Owners,
Contractors and Engineers to maintain long term “flat spec’d” levels of customer loyalty. Ensure
a high level of quality and consistency for all of our customers.
- Maintains technical proficiency in building codes, building systems applications and accepted
construction industry practices.
- Maintains knowledge of Automated Logic hardware, software, tools and applications.
- Suggests improvements in company processes and methods to improve its ability to meet the
mission statement.
- Conducts oneself in a professional manner consistent with the values set forth in the Company
Mission Statement.
- Maintains Company property and Company assigned assets with diligence and keep in proper
working order.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE):
- Engineering College or 2-year technical school graduate or a minimum of 4 years of engineering
or field experience with DDC Systems.
- Knowledgeable in DDC control theory and applications pertaining to the HVAC/control industry.
- Highly skilled in use of Automated Logic’s software and other system related software packages.
- Skilled in use of personal computers with software Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office,
database management tools and other software that may be utilized by company.
- Able to visit job construction hard hat areas and climb stairs, maneuver in and around pipework
and air ducts and work safely in close proximity to exposed line voltage and low voltage wiring
and terminations and climb an 8’ ladder without assistance.
- Possesses valid state motor vehicle license and possesses safe driving record as required by
company’s insurance carrier.
